About this blog

I'm Gio, and I've been making games for a very long time. Over twenty years of it professionally, across both AAA and indie — but really I've been making games in my bedroom for nearly forty, ever since I got my first Commodore 64. If I'm honest it started even earlier than that, the day my friend's mum bought a programmable calculator. It was a technological marvel at the time, and I was completely gone for it.

So I've been building things with machines for most of my life. Nearly all of my life, in fact. Then the machines started writing back.

When GPT-2 wrote that famous story about unicorns, I knew immediately that this would change the world, and I jumped on it. I started experimenting with the API and writing tools to help with creative writing. There are tons of those tools now. But back then, in 2019, this was uncharted territory — and a hell of a lot of fun.

These days I do everything with AI, and I want to be precise about what I mean by that. I don't tell AI to do things for me because I'm lazy. I do things with AI, to get better results than I could reach on my own.

Who do you think is writing this blog?

Gio and the machine. Together.
